The Team

BSc, MSc
Jim has been involved in all aspects of mathematics education for over 40 years. In addition to teaching elementary and high school in Scotland and Canada Jim has been an instructor at the University of British Columbia and Simon Fraser University.

Jim has been involved nationally and internationally developing curriculum, designing and presenting workshops and in-service courses, and writing and editing math resources.

Sorrel has been a graphic designer and animator for over 10 years. After earning her BSc degree from UBC she attended Vancouver Film School to learn 3D animation. Since then she has worked extensively in website design for clients including: Champ Car Motoracing, iCarly, Svedka Vodka, and Condé Nast.
Sorrel brought her love of cartooning and storyboarding to the Root 7 team, designing characters and creating the graphics and layouts for the Math Starters Resource.
 

BA, MEd, EdD 
Marg has been a teacher and school administrator for over 30 years teaching math at all grade levels. Marg also founded four schools, two elementary, one middle and one high school. With a Master’s in Curriculum Marg was involved in establishing the math (and other) programs in each of these schools.Marg has also presented workshops in various districts, at conferences, and at the University of British Columbia.

Currently Marg is writing math related stories for children.


BSc, MEd
Catherine has been a secondary mathematics instructor for over 30 years. She has taught in public, private and alternative school settings in Canada and the United States. In response to today's demanding classrooms, she has designed instruction to meet the needs of diverse learners. Using a variety of strategies, she has created effective and equitable learning environments for both individual and group learning situations. Currently she is teaching mathematics 8 - 10 in an alternative school program.
 


BSc
Jack has been a high school math teacher and college instructor for over 50 years. As well as teaching Jack has been an instructor in the Faculty of Education at the University of Toronto and a consultant to the Ontario Ministry of Education and Training. Jack has been a co-author of and editor of over 20 books, some for use in schools throughout Canada. Jack is a Descartes Fellow of the University of Waterloo and a Shell Merit Fellow of Cornell University
He has been made a Life Member of the Ontario Education Association and a Life Member of the Ontario Association of Math Educators.
